Crampy pain with bright red vaginal bleeding. Cause?

Resolved Question:

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant since the end of March (not long). I got what I thought was my period April 19th, but it only lasted 2 days and was much darker than usual. Since then we have had unprotected sex twice, including last night. This morning I felt fine, but just recently I went to the restroom and had bright red bleeding when I wiped and I'm feeling a little crampy. Could I be pregnant and could this be implantation bleeding?

Hello,
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern
It is possible that you might be pregnant. May I know your date of last menstrual period and (before April 19). Do you have regular cycles? How many days?

Patient replied :

Thanks for the reply. My previous period was March 17th lasting 4 days. I'm typically 33-37 days in between cycles. I do normally have some dark bleeding a day or two before my period. But as I mentioned my April period was shorter and darker than normal. My typical period is 4-5 days. April was only 2 1/2.
The bleeding that came out of nowhere today started at 12:30 and I noticed it after I wiped, it was bright red. Around 1400 I felt some discharge and it was more bright red blood. Just recently I urinated and there was more blood, still very red, and somewhat stringy looking.
Thank you!

Hello
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.com
It is possible to have erratic spotting/ irregular menstrual bleeding while on the pill.
It can occasionally cause cramps also.
So i think that is likely.
ANother possibility is endometriosis or a uterine polyp / fibroid.
Also, pregnancy, more specifically - ectopic pregnancy, has to be conclusively ruled out.
Basically you need to consult a Specialist Ob - Gyn and have the following workup -
1. Internal exam
2. Pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan.
3. Pap Smear.
4. Hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.
