Hello
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.
Any period that deviates from the normal pattern should be investigated for pregnancy or related complications ( a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy ) in a woman who is sexually active.
Hence, I request you to take a urine pregnancy test to know if this is the case.
If the test is negative, do not worry, sometimes, a slightly different period from usual can occur without any reason.
As you are well aware, any kind of stress, fever, illness, change of place, hectic travelling, weight loss or gain that happened rapidly, could cause such a period.
Also, medications such as birth control, antidepressants and some others can alter your menstrual cycle, as can conditions such as anemia, jaundice, thyroid hormone disorders, raised prolactin levels etc.
Some gynecological conditions like polycystic ovaries, endometrial hyperplasia, cervical or uterine polyps also can present this way.
Right now, I would ask you to first off take a pregnancy test.
If this is negative, do not worry, and wait it out.
If the same pattern recurs again, consult a Gynecologist for thorough assessment and evaluation, including an internal examination ( per vaginum and per speculum ) and pelvic ultrasound plus hormonal level measurements.
Please feel free to discuss further. All the best.

Hello,
Please take a test as suggested, and if negative, then proceed with the examination outlined.

I toke a pregnancy test and it came back neg so I waited for my next period and it came 3 days early but only lasted 1 day very light.. But been getting sharp pains in my right side?
Hello,
Well it might take some time for the cycles to get regularized. As I said please consider an OBGYN visit. You might also want to take an Iron + Folic acid tablet (OTC). The pain appears non significant. But since the irregular periods is persisting you might require a USG scan.
Hope this helps
Thank you
