I am extremely concerned about the medication that my mother is on and the potential side effects and interactions. I am worried that the doctor is over prescribing her medicine and I am not sure who to contact about this. My mother recently has what I would call a breakdown, on Friday she was so irrationally angry that she assaulted two people, and then attempted suicide by taking an entire bottle of Valium. She currently has two doctors who prescribe her medication, one is her primary care doctor and the other is a heart doctor that she saw when she was in the hospital for chest pains.
The current list of ailments that the doctor has diagnosed her with include Chest Pain, Chronic Back Pain, Bilateral Renal cysts, Urinary incontinence, rectal bleeding, Angina class 3, Left ventricular hypertophy, diastolic dysfunction, coronary heart disease, Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, Tobacco abuse, FH:CAD, ventral hernia, Depression, neuropathy, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, abdominal pain, fibromyalgia, and degenerative disc disease.
To treat all of this she is currently prescribed
Diazepam 10mg 1 tablet 3x daily as needed
Atorvastatin Calcium 10mg 1 tablet at bedtime
Pantoprazole Sod Dr 40mg 1 tablet daily
Lisinopril 5mg 1 tablet daily
Metoprolo Tartrate 25mg 1 tablet 2x daily
Clopidogrel Bisulfate 75mapo 1 tablet daily
Morphine Sulfer 30mg 1 tablet 2x daily
Nitrostat 0.4mg As needed
Sertraline Hcl 100mg 1 tablet daily
asprin 325mg 1 daily
oxyCodone 10-325mg (percocet) 1 tablet every 4 hrs as needed
furosemide 40mg (lasix) 1 tablet daily
quiNINE 324mg 1 tablet nightly
The charge nurse in the hospital made an off handed comment that she is taking a lot of very powerful medicines at very high doses, and I know that she has been on some of these pain pills for as I can remember. Are all of these medicines necessary, could these be causing some of her strange behavior.
