Lump at the base of subclavian triangle

Resolved Question:

I'm a 24 year old male. I noticed a small lump at the base of my neck on the right side (I'd subclavian triangle). It's not "rock" hard and its somewhat movable. I asked my doctor a year ago about it and he said there was nothing to be concerned about. This week I saw a new doctor and she seemed concerned about it. She is sending me for a CT scan tomorrow, and I'm meeting with a surgeon on the 23rd. I'm very nervous. I have done a lot of research online and I am very scared of what it could be. I have had no symptoms other than this lump. It doesn't appear to have grown in size, other than if I mess with it a lot it may slightly get bigger. What could this possibly be?

Hello,

Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.

From what I understand this knot - possibly a lymph node was there for an year with out any change (or without any symptoms either) . This mostly suggests that this lymph node is not a big concern. Had it been related to a malignancy there would have been definite increase in size of the node , with more nodes getting involved and other symptoms.

Lymph nodes are normal glands in human body and they are supposed to enlarge in case of infections , inflammations etc.

Being said that it is prudent to evaluate the node in that particular portion of the neck and make sure that it is safe. CT is a good option, even better is to do a FNAC ( a simple aspiration biopsy using a needle). You can discuss this option with your Doctor.

Hope this helps
