Viagra is a drug that is used to treat sexual dysfunction (erectile dysfunction) in men and also in pulmonary arterial hypertension. It contains Sildenafil that inhibits Phospho diesterase type 5 enzyme, which thus helps in regulating the blood flow to the penis by keeping the vessels dilated. Viagra is commonly used drug for erectile dysfunction. It has a good effect even in erectile dysfunction caused by diabetes. It should be taken once daily 30 minutes 3 hrs before participating in sexual intercourse. It should not be taken more than once daily.

Although it was introduced as a drug for erectile dysfunction, now a days it is being misused by some young individuals as a recreational drug. As with other drugs, it has its own side effects. Headache, flushing, vision problem, nose blockage etc., are its side effects. So it is contraindicated in patients suffering from heart diseases, and hypotension. It should not be taken with drugs like nitroglycerin which would lead to life threatening conditions.
