Hello,
Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.
May I know the reason for the testing ? (indication for both the tests.. as a part of pregnancy screening ?)
Also did your Doctor specifically mention "2" (as in HSV 2)
Do you any symptoms as of now.
You can reply as a followup
Thank you
Patient replied :
It was for pregnancy, they did blood work. The nurse called and said it was hsv 2. No I do not have any symptoms.
Hello,
Thank you for the reply. It is unlikely that your Doctor / Nurse has misread the blood test. Most likely the test is positive for HSV itself. SInce the nurse mentioned "HSV - 2", - a type-specific serology using surface glycoproteins (gG2 and gG1 for HSV-2 and HSV-1, respectively) to distinguish HSV-1 and HSV-2 should have been carried out.
One will not usually confuse this with Herpes Zoster. But as far as I see there is no reason to worry since you do not have any lesions. Upto 40 % of adults can be positive for Herpes and surprise results like this happen all the time. Just incase if there are any genital or oral blisters you will need evalaution.
Hope this helps
