Hello,
Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.
I will require some additional information from you in order to provide my best opinion.
1. May I know the size and location of the sebaceous cyst – (like size of a grape / or the diameter in centimetres)
2. At time of rupture was there pus (other than blood) draining from the cyst ?
3. Is there any bleeding or pus discharge now?
You can reply as a followup query.
Thank you
Patient replied :
Hello,
the cyst is the size of a grape, it's on my left cheek, near the ear lobe, on top of the cheek bone (like a sideburn). There was only blood, i did not see any different color liquid coming out. It bled a little more 30 minutes ago, but not much. At the moment i am wearing a big plaster for protection, until i'm sure it's not bleeding. I was due for surgical removal in a month time, but now that it burst on its own i don't know what to do. i don't smoke, drink or else. I don't have allergies or diabetes. I had panic attacks a year ago. Thanks

The sebaceous cyst could have been infected. That's why the rupture happened.
If you are planning to visit your Doctor in a day (within 24 hours), you can just leave it like that with the bandage. Take care while sleeping. Sleep with the opposite side on pillow.
If you are not planning to visit your Doctor soon / or do not have access to medical care you can manage it at home to an extend. You can remove the bandage and gently press along the sides of the cyst to express out the contents of it. There could be some pus or blood inside. This will help in fast healing. Then wash it with distilled / clean water. Apply an OTC antiseptic cream like Providone Iodine over the cyst and apply the bandage. It will start healing soon. Later every alternate day you can remove the bandage, wash with distilled water (no need to press or express out anymore) and apply the anti-septic cream. Do not use any harsh anti septic liquids or soaps as this may lead on the scar formation. Try not to apply pressure over the lesion directly or indirectly.
Since the cyst is the face and since there is possible infection, it is advisable to visit your GP / Doctor for this care. No urgent intervention is needed. Under normal circumstance this will heal completely without scar. Your Doctor might prescribe you an antibiotic to prevent infection over the lesion.
Hope this helps
