Hello.
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
You are correct metaprolol is an antihypertensive agent. But in addition to it is an antianginal and cardioprotective agent. Did you have a heart attack? What is your ejection fraction if your echo has been done? What is your heart rate and blood pressure now? Patients who have had heart attacks and those with reduced heart function benefit from metaprolol even if the bp is normal provided it doesn't fall too much with metaprolol. Also heart rate should be above 60 per min with metaprolol. If you could provide your detailed history and investigations I could tell you if metaprolol is indicated. All said and done metaprolol tartarate is not the recommended drug. It should be long acting metaprolol succinate. Regards Dr Vivek Mahajan DM Cardiology |
