Hello, thankyou for psoting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I have gone through your case and understand your concern.
Please can you answer a few questions so that I can give you a better opinion.
I would like to know the following:
Have you lost or gained any weight recently?
Any hot flashes, history of diarrhea, jaundice, liver or kidney disease?
How are your menstrual cycles?
Are you on any medications?
You will need to check your blood sugar levels during the episode of your symptoms.
Further testing will need a prolonged fasting test for 24-48hrs or till you develop hypoglycemia (less than 45mg/dl).
Do revert with answers for me to discuss further.
Thankyou

Hey Doc! I have gained weight recently when adding sugary items back in my diet(I try to maintain a paleo diet) but fell off the wagon with a job change being too busy. I gain weight SUPER easy. I have hot flashes and I just went back on birth control so my menstrual cycle this time is going just fine. I prefer being off of them so I may consider going off of them again. I go between bouts of diarrhea and constipation and have IBS symptoms when eating anything that spikes my sugar.
Currently I take trazadone for the insomnia and 10mg of lexapro which I've never had any issues with just because the tremors at night were crazy.
I have been checking my blood sugar and it's been fine the past few days but my symptoms have ceased quite a bit. It seems they come in spurts throughout the month.
Thanks!
Lauren
Hello,
You mean to say you have hot flashes and tremors, sweating at night and menstrual delay, which has improved after starting birth control pills?
If you stop the pills and your cycles get delayed or even stop, my advise would be to for your FSH levels, which will give a clue. As your symptoms of hot flushes and tremors could be related to hormonal changes.
Or else, you will need to do a prolonged fasting test to rule out a spontaneous hypoglycemia due to Insulin excess.
I hope this has helped.
Thankyou

I do agree that the birth control pills may be the issue! I never even thought of that. Anyways, I took blood sugar levels today and after lunch I registered:
1 hour-154
2 hours-164
3 hours-180.
I drank a few drinks tonight for St. Patty's and after a night of drinking I register at 94. I wonder if it's the hormones :) I know I'm not crazy..but these symptoms are just terrible.
Thanks, Doc :)

Hello Lauren,
I did not mean that the birth control pills are the issue. What I was saying is that if your symptoms have improved after taking birth control pills, it is probable that your symptoms are related to hormonal changes. Hence my advise is, that if you stop the pill and you notice that you cycles are delayed, irregular or stop you will require to get your Serum FSH levels tested.
Your sugar levels post lunch (Post prandial) are slightly on the higher side. But post prandial sugar levels are not useful for diagnostic purposes. Also sugar levels tend to drop with alcohol consumption, which is normal .
Hence you need to get your fasting blood sugar levels tested after 8-10 hours fast.
Hope this has helped.
Thankyou
