Fever with increased heartbeat after HERNIA SURGERY.

Resolved question:
Hi,

My mother in law under go ventral hernia surgery 12 days before. She was in post operation ward after the surgery. During the time , Her heart beat was around 120-130.And she got fever varying form 100 to 102.During that time they told to shift her to ward. And they shifted to ward.
And her breathing pattern was not normal.on next day when doctor examined they suggested to shift Multi Disciplinary ICU.And they given oxygen mask.
That time they check sodium level is high and potassium level is low. That time she was partially responding. And next day sodium level shoot up to 182.
And she became fully unconscious. To reduce the sodium level, they given low sodium trips. And sodium was reducing very slowly. Then they suggested to do dialysis for lowering the sodium level. That time they suggested to do CT also. For CT scan they ask to give ventilation. After the CT scan complete they didn't removed ventilation support. The report of CT scan is normal. But sodium level still remain in 160.So we shifted to a new multi speciality hospital. At that time also she was unconscious.Doctors suggested to do MRI Scan. And sodium level was fluctuating between 150-155. Next day she undergone MRI scan and found osmotic demyelination. Next day sodium level become normal. And still she is unconscious. They suggested to do Tracheostomy and Peg.And she undergone that surgery today.
Here I attached report of MRI scan. Please suggest any treatment for this problem in Kerala or South India.

Hello,
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I have noted your mother-in-law medical problems and her current situation.
She is suffering from a serious brain disease, called as central pontine/extrapontine demyelination (osmotic demyelination) syndrome, which has a very high chance of death and disability. This happens due to rapid changes in the level of sodium in blood/brain.
There is no specific treatment for this condition. Only supportive treatment can be given, as is being done now. Despite this, most patients do not survive, and those who survive, have severe disabilities such as weakness of limbs, unconscious state, bed bound state, etc.
Best wishes,
