Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
No matter what you eat, you feel like it is not getting digested, and end up vomiting most times.
Has an endoscopy ever been done? And have you been put on Omeprazole before? Your symptoms are suggestive of GERD, and I believe the doctors would have already tried with Omeprazole/ Rabeprazole for you. If you did take the medicines, for how long did you continue?
Unfortunately some people have weak metabolism, like me and you, and yes, we do burn calories lesser than an usual person, so I completely understand what you are feeling.
Before I help you further I need these details. Also have you gotten your H Pylori checked before?
Once you reply I will get back to you,
Regards,
Dr. Jaydeep

Thank you for the reply Dr. Jaydeep. To answer your questions, no an endoscopy has never been done. I have been diagnosed with GERD but was just told to take Prevacid as needed. I took it for about a week. Didn't seem to make a big difference. I've been tested for H. pylori once, which came back negative. But yknow, sometimes I wonder if its not a virus. It always starts with these horrible sulfur burps. My 8 year old daughter has had them and vomited as well. I never had them until my teens, after my Dad had it for a couple years.
Thank you for understanding. My husband is one of those high metabolism people who is always hot-don't they just make you jealous? :)
Hello,
Sorry for deviating a bit, but yes these people who ae blessed with good metabolism do make me jealous.
For instance, one of my colleagues eats all his meals, and keeps snacking all the time, besides being a beer fanatic. On the other hand, I stick to oats and muesli, and I still don't lose weight. My BMI is fine but that is a result of intense 2-hour workouts every day. I weighed 115 kgs once, and then with my work outs, I have come down to 76 kgs now with a BMI of 20. The journey was tough, I gave up on sugar completely, took lots and lots of protein. One thing I realised was skipping meals caused a lot of damage. It further slowed down my metabolism. So the best thing to do it stick to the same diet schedule, just eat half. For example I used to have 3 toast for breakfast, I made it just 2 slices, with low-fat butter. It is a tough life.
The point is this is very unfortunate. Scientists say it is dome complex interplay of hormones such as leptin in our blood stream. But not much research has been done, and there is no such approved medicine which actually increases your BMI. So for us, for the rest of life it is about avoiding fatty foods as far as possible and sticking to oats and muesli and lean meat.
I totally get what you're saying.
I will advise you Rabeprazole 20 mg once daily before breakfast for 2 weeks. With this also continue Simethicone tablets post meals for the same duration. Please update me in about a couple of weeks time if there has been some improvement. It is a good thing H. Pylori has been ruled out, it only makes things worse.
For losing weight or getting that desired BMI, you should take a lot of green leafy vegetables like spinach. In fact spinach everyday gave me adequate protein to work out and survive. Replacing snacks with soup ( mostly clear soups ) also helped. Sticking to the same time for meals, and avoiding sugar or any kind of beverages completely helped. I have done this for last 7 years. Literally fasting you can say.
