Extreme thrist, dizziness after drinking wine.

Resolved Question:

I had several glasses of wine last night with friends. I ended up falling asleep on the couch, and when I woke up, I was extremely thirsty (abnormally). I took a dropper of complex B vitamins, and then I had 3 average size glasses of water. It didn't seem to be quenching my thirst, so I drank an orange juice (11.5 ounces). I do know you can drink too much, but I'm not sure what that threshold is. I've read that it's a lot, but I would like a little reassurance. I am a little "dizzy" now, but I assume that's due to the effects of the alcohol from last night. My thirst finally seems to be better. It's been about an hour since I've had any fluid. I do have some powerade here, too, but I don't want to drink anything until I know it's safe to do so...or I may just go back to sleep.

In the end, my question is really in relation to how much is too much water? Based on the above, would I be at risk of hyponatremia? and is there anything I can (or should at this point) do to avoid that?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I will like to assure you, you definitely did not consume too much water. Such acute hyponatremia can only occur if someone consumes 5-6 liters of water in 1-2 hours. An average person can drink up to 5-6 liters of water in a day. The excessive thirst is due to the alcohol, and will slowly get better.
You can take Cap. Omeprazole 20 mg to prevent acidity as it can be an accompanying symptom. So, please do not worry, you just need to rest adequately, and you will be fine.
Regards,
Dr. J
