Efficacy of treating genital herpes with L-lysine supplements

Resolved Question:

Hi doctor, I recently got tested to have genital herpes. But I haven’t had any outbreak of it. I know that it will occur soon. Can it be treated with L-lysine? I read about that medicine recently and it was from internet. There was no assurance or so, but I read that it is used to treat viral diseases. Please help me in this.

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by Type 2 of Herpes Simplex Virus. It affects genital areas of human body, just like genital warts, which is caused by Human Papilloma Virus. Now this infection is spreading very fast in US and as per statistics, one out of every five men has got infected with this virus. Moreover, one out of every four women also got infected. There are about 45 million US citizens who got infected with this virus. This is an infection which once got infected, will never go away in the life time. There is no effective treatment found yet to eradicate the virus, after infection. But there are a lot many antiviral drugs which can suppress the outbreak or even the burden of infection. There are a list of medicines like acyclovir, valacyclovir, facmicyclovir and so on, which are used to treat symptoms of this disease. They come in a variety of brand names like Zovirax, Famvir, Valtrex etc. They cannot stop the actions of virus but can suppress the symptoms like sores, blisters etc. Anyway, the presence go virus can be scientifically found and confirmed through various medical tests. Long before, studies have been done to find the effect of Lysine drug on herpes infection and curing it. Anyway many people told that Lysine helped them in reducing the burden of herpes. But some other studies on the same topic came out without much positive results. Anyway it is clear that Lysine cannot prevent a recurrence of this infection, at all. Visible outbreaks of various episodes of this infection also cannot be suppressed by medicines like Lysine. Hope my answer was helpful. Take care.
