Chances of contracting GENITAL WARTS with normal health checkup.

Resolved Question:

Hi i was recently diagonsed as havin genital warts, only last week. I got a full sexual health check up last january and it was all clear. Shortly after i started sleeping with a girl up until last month. I now discovered that i have genital warts, which i never had before. My question is, is there a possibility i may ave had them before i started sleeping with her and just didnt know, or is it more then likely that she had them and past them on to me, and if so is there a chance she doesnt know she has them and gave them to me and if so should i inform her she gave me warts.
Like is there a chance she could suddenly develop liasions and blame me on giving her warts. sorry to sound confusing its just im very confused about what to do. All advice is very much appreciated.
Im 29 and shes 30 by the way.

Hello

Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com

I can understand your concern.

It's very difficult to comment on whether you had genital warts before you met her or not. Usually warts take 1 to 3 months to show up after infection. It's more likely a recent infection but it can't be said for sure, in rare cases warts can take upto a few months to show up after the initial infection.

I would recommend that you ask your partner to visit a doctor who can examine her and opine regarding the status of her genital warts and whether she gave it to you or you gave it to her, or you both had it before you meet each other.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Take care

Patient replied :

Is there a medical obligation on me to inform her because I'm nearly certain I must have got them from her. I don't really want to bring it up incase she thinks I gave them to her. I've a feeling she got them from her ex boyfriend, but May not know about it. Is her health at risk if I say nothing and just move on with my life.

Hello.
There is no medical obligation.
If you're certain you got them from her you can definitely go ahead and tell her the same.
It is better that she finds out about the status too so that she can initiate the right treatment based on her findings.
And as i said, it is actually extremely difficult to find out about who had the disease first since they can be asymptomatic for a long time. This is the major issue with the viral infections.
Regards.

Patient replied :

Ok, so I got the warts frozen off. What's the next step of treatment, is there anything I can do to prevent them coming back, and am I in danger of always passing this on should I have unprotected sex again. Example, to a future partner??

Hello

Thanks for your reply.

Once the warts are eliminated, the chances of transmission to a future partner are low. However, at times there could be new ways that come up as the warts have already infected the surrounding areas which were not seen at the time of freezing the visible warts.

I would recommend that you use a condom for a few months Atleast.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Take care
