Chances of HIV from handshaking with bleeding cut.

Resolved Question:

I am HIV paranoid. This may seem silly, but I have been terrified. 3 days ago in a business meeting I shook another ladies hand. When I pulled my hand away I saw that a small cut I had gotten 2 days before was bleeding a tiny bit. Is there any way I could get infected from that? I did not see any blood on her and even asked her if I got blood on her. She is a married with kids and I think her chances of being HIV positive are slim. But I am still in panic mode over this. Is there any possibility I could have been infected? PLEASE answer so I can get on with my life. I feel like I am so scared I cannot think. THANK YOU!!!

Hi,
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
There no way you can get infected this way with HIV. Besides it was your hand that bled a bit not her. So there is not a possibility of transmission. So relax. Let me know if you have any questions.
Regards

Thanks for your answer. What if her hand was bleeding and I missed seeing that?? Are u an AIDS specialist? I am not doubting you, just paranoid. Has there ever been a transmission from handshaking with bleeding cuts? How can I curb this stupid paranoia?
Thank u!!

Hi,
There should be a deep prick inside your skin to have a transmission. There has been a no case in a medical literature where touch with the fluid/ blood has caused the HIV virus transmission. Besides you don't know HIV status of the woman. I am a board certified physician and a HIV specialist. So if you could trust me you can get rid of your paranoia.
Thanks

Thank you. One last thing. Are you saying even if she had a bleeding cut and so did I, that is not a means of transmission?
THX!

No, it is not! Take care!
