Back pain with BULGING DISC IN L4-L5 in MRI.

Resolved Question:

My daughter is a college student. She has been having pain that started in her back. Had an MRI at an ER. Results were a bulging disc between her L4 & L5. Below that she had an 'almost' herniated disc. She was given a pain shot and then some over the counter medications, that she said all they did was make her sleep and NO pain relief otherwise.

She was treated for the back to keep the discs from rupturing or getting worse.

Now her pain is above the periformis(sp) muscle that runs across the middle of her back and shoots down into her leg. Causing her severe pain to where she cannot lay down or sit.

Should she see a neurologist or a orthopedic?

I understand your concern.
I have read your query carefully, it looks from your details that your daughter is suffering from PIVD L4-L5. level. She is also having radiculopathy . Looking at her age the best treatment at present should be following:-
1. She should be on strict bed-rest .
2. If she is having severe pain then she may take a combination of tramadol with paracetamol. I used to prescribe this combination in person who are suffering from severe pain.
3.She should also consult to a physiotherapist .a guided traction and exercise therapy will help her a lot.
4.If her pain continue to aggravate or if she feels weakness in her lower limb then please consult to ER.
