Hello.
Thanks for writing to DoctorSpring.com with your health concern.
This is an abnormally shaped yolk sac. However, you must understand that when I myself scan the patient, in all aspects, planes and orientation, I derive much more information, as compared to viewing 3 still frozen images which are two dimensional.
Is there presence of cardiac activity in the fetus ?
If yes, do not worry.
As such, irregular shape of yolk sac is NOT associated with an increased risk of adverse effects, the most worrisome one being a miscarriage.

All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.
Patient replied :
The heartbeat was 130 and we could see it flashing on the screen. Is it okay that the yolk sac is on top? I've never seen it like that. I've always seen it on left or right side. Thank you in advance.
The position can vary, the scan done in real time is 3 dimensional, and the images are not.
What you see printed is not what actually is .
So, what you see on top, is actually surrounding the fetus.
Do not read much into the images that you see.
If the heartbeat was fine, then you can relax.
Take care.
