Resolved question:
HI, I am turning 21 this year and usually 1 week or few days before my period I would get noticeable sore breast as a symptom. However, previous month together with this month I didn't get any sore breast but only sore nipples before my period was due. Can you advise me is the stopping of breast soreness indicating any health issues such as affecting breast growth and etc.? I am not on any pills or diet but just regular exercise and I still get my period regularly. No active sexual intercourse.

Hello, in regard to your problem regarding soreness in your breast before the period (menstruation), which is not uncommon for women to experience discomfort, tenderness and swelling of the breasts during 7 to 14 days and prior to this period. These symptoms usually settle down when menstruation begins due to fluctuations in the circulating level of hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. Even dietary changes may help to a certain extent like a low fat, high carbohydrate, decreased salt intake and reduce caffeine and alcohol intake. These are nothing but 'Premenstrual Syndrome' (PMS or PMT). This can be over come by reducing stress, increase aerobic exercise and getting adequate sleep may help to overcome this problem. Certain medications like vitamin B6, oral contraceptives, ibuprofen might also help to a certain extent. You can also try Gamolenic acid provided by evening primrose oil. (3-4 capsules twice a day orally daily and the response occurs over a period of 8-12 weeks due to gradual onset of action and when once it is achieved either you can stop or continue as a maintenance dose. At the same time your breasts to be examined to rule out any abnormalities requiring further investigation. Hence I suggest you to discuss your symptoms with your obg-gyn doctor, so that they can be adequately assessed prior to embarking on any treatment. Thank you.
