Way to reduce raised sugar level with INSULIN.

Resolved Question:

Hello Sir, My mother is a diabetic patient. We monitor her sugar levels regularly and try to keep it normal. But, from last week Her sugar level is very high 300~330 (pp). No matter what we do to make it normal it is not coming low. We increased the insulin levels, reduced carbohydrate intake but none of these worked. She is feeling a bit drowsy in this week too(I guess its for the high sugar level).
Her current medications:
1.Glycinorm M40 - 1 at morning, Half Before launch, Half Before Dinner.
2.Humalog Mix 25 (insulin) - 22 Units at morning, 22 units at night.
As she had UTI last year we can't take the risk of keeping the sugar levels high for long period.
We need advice on what should we do now to reduce the sugar levels. Is medication change required?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
You haven't mentioned her fasting sugar levels.
She needs to be put on insulin basal at night and thrice premeal rapid insulin. Any infection needs to be excluded.
Kindly mention her fasting levels too.
Regards.

Patient replied :

Thanks for the reply sir. Her fasting sugar levels are between 200~250 for the last 6 days. Can you please prepare a medicne routine (prescription) for her.

Inj Glargine/Lantus 26U Bedtime
Inj Humalog/Lispro
10 before each meal, thrice a day
Keep checking Fasting sugars every alternate day, if more than 130mg/dl, increase Lantus by 2 Units, till fasting is 90-130mg/dl

Regards
