Hello
Thanks for writing to DoctorSpring.com with your health concern.
There are various different regimens that exist for the use of abortion pills.
One common one is to take 2 pills of Misoprostol 24 hours after the pill of mifepristone ( vaginally ) and then 2 more ( orally ) after another 24 hours ( 48 hours after mifepristone ).
That said, I would hope you have consulted a doctor before pill intake.
The pregnancy must be confirmed and dated by a gynaecologist, as these pills work within a very narrow time frame.
Next, correct dosage and schedule of drugs must be taken.
A follow up scan after 15 days is a must, to ensure that abortion was complete.
IF these steps are not followed, risks such as incomplete abortion , uncontrolled vaginal bleeding, infection, undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy etc exist.
After intake of either mifepristone or misoprostol, bleeding with spotting can start anytime within 24 - 48 hours, heavy bleeding with cramps should be expected for a few days, and spotting can continue for 15 days.
Also, if you vomit the tablets within 4 hours of consumption, please repeat the dosage.
Try not to take painkillers unless pain / cramps are extreme, you can take a hot water bottle to bed.
Take care.
Please feel free to discuss further.
Patient replied :
I am in a country where abortion is prohibited, and we have only these four tablets of misoprostol, I checked on the net and found the highest successful abortion is when u use 800mg of misoprostol vaginally, do u think I should go for that, or do it gradually as per ur advice. If 4 pills vaginally ,shall we make it after 24 or 48 hours of the mipfristrone. Will bleeding be more in this case of 800mg all together, is it more effective
A warm welcome from Doctor Spring.
I have already explained the regimen and timings to you.
I strongly advocate against using them without consulting a doctor, you are placing yourself at great risk. There can be a lot of complications such as very heavy bleeding, there are more chances of infection, it can be extremely painful hampering your daily routine.
Hence i advise you to consult a specialist and then proceed. Its your life. That's why you have to be extremely careful.
Thanks again,
Doctor Spring
