Treatment for painful growing lumps in armpits with pus?

Resolved question:
Hello,

My name is Sai and I'm currently residing in USA. I'm having a problem with lumps in my armpits. Please check out the pictures uploaded. They are growing there since 2 years. They are very painful and becomes more painful when I sweat. I get a lot of sweat even for little and slow walks. They become big and they contain a lot of puss mixed with blood. My mother said me even she had them in her armpits during her childhood but a surgery helped to remove them. I went to many doctors they gave me lot of medicines and insisted me too use the regularly until they heal. I was using them and they were under control for a period of time. My home country is INDIA and I have come to USA for my studies. Here, I have met another doctor. She said that she needs cut of the tissue so that they'll be healed easily and I went through the process. Even then they didn't go away. I can't undergo surgery here because it's costly. I need to wait until coming December to go to my home country and to have a surgery there. I'm unable to play any sports and the pain some times comes into my chest (rarely). I can't wear a shirt even with little sweat of mine as they become big and more painful. They are very sore and soft and the lumps back on them are hard looks as if they are part of my body. The puss on the front parts leak and it bursts and the puss is sticky. Please, help me to get rid of these severely painful lumps. They are in both of my armpits. Also, I have uploaded the pictures. And, I'll be awaiting for a helpful solution.

Thanks,
Sai

Thank you for posting in Doctorspring.com.

The condition is Hidradenitis suppurativa. It affects sweat forming areas like underarms, inner thigh etc.It presents as multiple abscesses where sweat glands are more.

As you produce lots of sweat, this condition is common.

The first image typically shows an abscesses with pus.The pus has to be drained and you should use Antibiotic.

I usually prescribe Antibiotics like Clindamycin tablet and Cefuroxime tablet along with antiinflammatory tablet to my patients with similar complaints. If the symptoms recur,i prefer to excise the affected area .

Now,you should get the pus drained and when you come to India, you get the tissue excised by surgery. The tissue has to be deeply excised.

Nothing to worry. Do post additional queries.

Wish you good health

Doctor,
How to avoid them for time-being. Should i use any sweat sticks, which would help me a bit in reducing the amount of sweat.

Hello. Your lifestyle has to be changed. You should quit smoking, if you are smoker. Your weight has to be reduced. When the lesions are more and active, you should not remove axillary hair with razor. Antiperspirant should be used. A good antiperspirant, prescription strength will be given by a Dermatologist. You can use it and reduce the sweat temporarily. Please use some antibiotic and anti inflammatory tablets like Advil (Ibuprofen 400 mg) , two times a day, after food, for 5 days. Wish you good health. Regards

Does that mean, I have to take 4 tablets a day? ( 2 Anti biotic and 2 pain relief). Can I use crocin pain relief in place of the anti inflammatory tablets (Advil (Ibuprofen) 400mg). Also, Please let me know about the recovery period after the surgery. ~Varshan reddy.

Hello. Thank you for writing to us again.
I prescribe Antibiotic tablet like Cefuroxime 500mg twice daily and anti inflammatory tablet containing Aceclofenac, Paracetamol and Serratiopeptidase twice daily.
Simple Paracetamol will relieve pain only. You need anti inflammatory agent too.
Recovery after surgery varies from person to person. If sutures are placed after removal of tissue, they will be removed after 1 week. You can do routine work 2 days after surgery.
Wish you good health.
Feel free to discuss further,.
