Resolved question:
Hai doctor, My primary doubt is about cold sore and transmission of herpes. A few days ago, I and my boyfriend decided to have sex. But I changed my mind and gave him oral sex instead of penetrative sex. The next morning, there appeared a blackhead on my lip. It looked as if ready to pop but it scabbed over when I tried to pop it. Seeing this, my mother told that it is cold sore. I am so much worried now and doubt whether I have given my boyfriend this infection. I also doubt whether I have herpes too. Can a blackhead occur by cold sore? If it is a cold sore, is there a chance that I may have given it to my boyfriend? During oral sex, we didn’t use any type of contraception. But he had not ejaculated inside my mouth also. If I have got cold sores, please suggest some col sore treatment options. Please help me at the earliest.

Thanks for your question and concern about herpes. Herpes is caused by herpes simplex virus. There are two types of herpes- tyupe-1 and type-2. Of these, type 1 of HSV is found to be the cause of infection in mouth, facial parts, lips, pharynx etc. Type 2 HSV is notorious to cause genital herpes. Both of them can grow anywhere in the body to cause cold sores and blisters. An oral sex from male to female (cunningulus) can result in spreading of type 1 HSV from male to female or transmission of type 2 HSV from female to male. Usually, once infected, the virus stay in the nerves there and may take some time to cause visible warts or appearance. Cold sore is a visible proof for type 1 HSV infection. But if you are sure that what you have got is a blackhead, there is nothing to worry. A blackhead is nothing but a pimple. But if it is a cold sore, you might have given the HSV you had, to your boyfriend. Using condoms and ejaculation inside mouth doesn’t have much significance in transmitting the virus if it is orally spread. If you have got cold sore you are affected with HSV and there are treatment for cold sore is not available till date, as it is a viral infection. It is better to seek the help of your doctor to check whether either you or both of you have got the infection. An outbreak will occur after 3-7 days from getting affected with the virus and you can easily spot out whether you are affected, through tests suggested by your doctor. Hope I have cleared your doubt. Take care.
