Hello and thankyou for approaching DoctorSpring with your query.
She has been rightly treated by complete removal of the thyroid gland and RadioIodine treatment so that the tumour does not recur again.
To replace the function of the thyroid gland, she is on thyroid tablets, dose of which is adjusted as per the TSH reports.
She is as good as any other normal person when she is taking these tablets and regularly testing her thyroid function (TSH levels, once in 6mths to one year and more frequently during pregnancy).
There will be no problem in pregnancy or living a complete life with such a treatment.
You can convey this to your parents as well.
I hope this has helped. Feel free to follow up.
Thankyou
Patient replied :
Does thyroid problem can be passed to child in later life? Is there any possibility of re-occurrence of thyroid tumer even though RAI has completely remove all remaining thyroid cells?
No, this is not transmitted to child.
There is a chance of recurrence of tumor, but very remote, after complete surgery and radioIodine treatment. Regular follow up is required at least yearly but even if there is a recurrence, it is easily treatable fully.
Thank you
