Swelling in the scalp possibly Sebaceous Cyst.

Resolved Question:

Hi there,

I have a small lump under the skin on my scalp which you cannot see but can feel. I have seen a doctor about it and he has told me its a sebaceous cyst. My main concern is it has gotten bigger and a bit harder since i went to the doctors which was only two months ago he said it would take years to grow. I have been playing with it a bit so i am not sure if maby thats why its gotton bigger or not? Im a bit worried it may be cancerous is this possible? Should i get a second opinion? The doctor just felt it and told me straight away it was a cyst there was no testing which is was worries me.

If you could give me some advice it wouls be much appreciated.

Thanks
Kayla

Hello,

From what you have described it appears to be a benign (non cancerous) swelling. I need some additional information from you so that I can form a learned opinion.

1. Where is this swelling in the scalp ? Frot ? Back of the head ? near the nape of neck ?

2. Since when did you notice the swelling ?

3. Is the swelling movable over the skull bone ?

4. Is the swelling rounded or having irregular surface ?

5. Is there any other swellings in the scalp or neck ?

6. How is the skin over the swelling ? Is there any abrasion or wound over it ?

You can reply as a follouwp
Thank you

Hi there

This is at the back of my head it does not have a wound over it If you were to look at the bump without feeling it it would look at though nothing was there. When i press on the bump it moves around under the skin. No there is other swellings on my head or neck. I noticed it about two months ago which was when i went to see a Doctor and he told me it was a cyst. It doesnt hurt its just gotten a bit bigger it is still smaller than a pea but im not sure if its getting bigger because i keep playing with it.

Hello,

The swelling appears to be non cancerous. And you need not worry about this swelling. If you are manipulating the swelling it might slightly increase in size, as you have rightly suspected. You can leave it alone. Followup with your Doctor for yearly Physical examination.

Hope this helps
Thank you
