Sorethroat, swollen nodes with POSITIVE MONO TEST after sex.

Resolved Question:

I recently went to two massage parlors. (dont ask me why) After I got home I noticed that i had a cut from shaving on the shaft of my penis. The first massage parlor I did not have sexual intercourse, only hand to penis. The second one I got a table shower (I am freaking out that even though they were using soap and water that the ladies hands and or sponge they used was infected) and had sexual intercourse using protection.
Shortly after I developed a sore throat and my lymph nodes were swollen. I went to the doctor and got tested for STD's and mono. The STD tests came back negative (still waiting on HSV 1 and 2) and the mono test came back positive.
I am scared that I now have herpes or HIV that has not been detected in my blood yet. Please help as I am freaking myself out by reading forums.

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Yes an open cut does increase chances of getting STDs, or infections down there. However the good thing is you never had unprotected intercourse or unprotected oral sex, so chances of getting any STD is highly unlikely. HIV can only be spread through unprotected intercourse with a female harboring HIV virus. Talking about herpes, it can be spread through skin contact with open wounds/kissing/ unprotected intercourse.
In your case there is no chance of getting HIV, so please do not be worried.
Even herpes can be ruled out, but anyway you will get the results soon.
Now with sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes, it definitely is due to mono, which is highly contagious. But again you will have spontaneous recovery. Make sure you're adequately rested. Normally anxiety makes a viral disease more severe, so kindly avoid anxiety about HIV, because i can guarantee there is no chance of you getting it.
Hope this was helpful,
Regards.

Patient replied :

Thank you for your answer. I have very high anxiety about the whole thing. My mind is racing with bad images. I am freaking out because I stupidly got tested before this whole escapade. I was tested for Hep C and HSV 1 and 2 after. Hep C came back negative and as I said I am waiting on the HSV results. Should I think about testing again in 6 months being that some diseases take a few months to show up in your blood?
Also, being that the mono symptoms seem to parallel HIV, I want to make sure at a later date that I absolutely do not have it. Thank you for the reassurance that there is a extremely small chance if any at all that I do.
Should I be worried about any STDs that can be transfered via skin to skin contact? Especially since who knows if they clean that shower and table after every use.
Needless to say, I am never going to one of those again after this scare.

Hello.
Thank you for the follow up.
Hepatitis C can only be transmitted through contaminated blood products. Hepatitis B infection can be tranmitted through unprotected intercourse. So you have no chances of developing either.
I can understand your anixety, but if you trust me, there is no reason to worry.
Moreover even regarding HIV, you have absolutely no chances of developing the infection because there was no unprotected intercourse. It can't be spread through contaminated fomites, or through skin to skin contact.
The only concern is Herpes ( HSV- 1), which can be spread through kissing, in case the partner had an open lesion. Without any open lesions in the mouth, the risk of transmission is again low.
Kindly let me know when you get your herpes results.
You do not need re-testing.
Regards.
