Resolved question:
I'm a 29 year old women suffering from severe acne! I had a hysterectomy in 2010 and evey since it seems I've been fighting it! I've had all of my labs done to check for hormone issues and all come back normal. I've been to dermatologist and been prescribed antibiotics and topical creams that didn't work. I've tried probably everything OTC as well with no luck. I'm so depressed with this issue. It is so disgusting to even look in the mirror for me. Can anyone help?

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I can understand your concern.
Acne is a condition which starts in teenage years n goes on till the age of 26 or 27. However if you have hormonal imbalance in the form of irregular periods then one can get acne even after the age of 27. Since your lab test results for level of hormones is normal we need to treat acne with measures aimed on reducing the acne.
I would recommend that you start using a salicylic acid face wash once or twice a day. It can cause a little dryness hence you can start using it once and then make it twice if there is no dryness.
The facewash should be able to reduce the acne.
I would recommend application of a cream which is a combination of clindamycin gel and benzoyl peroxide gel for faster resolution to be applied once daily.
Also a gel containing adapalene to be applied at night for two hours and washed off , on full face.
In case you have already used these creams and they haven't helped then i would recommend that you discuss with your doctor about taking isotretinoin. Its an oral medication which helps in reducing acne.
Please make sure to discontinue medications when you are planning to start your family.
Hopefully all these measures should help resolve your concern.
Please let me know if you have any queries.
Regards.
