Hello. Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
ESR can be high in certain allergic conditions. Do you have any allergies? Or do you have symptoms currently? ESR can also be elevated in some other immunological diseases and will also be high in some digestive system disorders like Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Since you were just diganosed with IBS, ESR may be high and without any other associated symptoms there is nothing to worry about.
With the AST value slightly high, again there is nothing to worry about. Since ALT is normal, and also you don't have any symptoms suggestive of hepatitis, it can be considered insignificant.
For your platelets, since every lab has their own reference range, can you send me your actual reports? Or if possible, the reference range. Reactive thrombocytosis, mild elevation of platelets can again be present with allergic disorders, can also be a sign of inflammatory bowel disease. A little bit more history will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. I did just get over a bad cold about a week ago maybe that is the reason for the ESR elevation? the range for platelets was 150-400. I do have some enviornmental allergies but no symptoms that I am aware of at the moment.
The mild stomach pain began about 3-4 months ago and I have noticed it increases when stress is present. I do have diarrhea about 1x weekly. I noticed an increase in gas and burping. I also had some issues with GERD about 2 montsh ago that went away. I also had my stool checked yesterday for blood during a rectal exam and that was negative.
Thanks.
Hello. Thank you for writing to us again.
Yes there is a possibility that your ESR is still high because of that cold and the values will come back to normal soon. Your platelets are fine too, just mildly elevated and that is not a cause of any concern. Stomach pain due to stress might indicate stress gastritis. Hence it is advisable you try to reduce your stress levels through methods like meditation and yoga. Otherwise stress can cause a lot of gastric side effects in the future including stress induced ulcers. If blood is not present in stool, then there is nothing to worry. Avoid dairy products, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, bran, cereals. They will make you more gassy. Try to avoid oily/ fatty food for the time being. Don't overdo on the fiber, make sure it is adequate but not excessive. Have small frequent meals with plenty of water. Your symtoms will subside. If you're not on any medication currently, i will advise Tab. Pantoprazole 40 once in the morning before breakfast for 2 weeks.
Hope this is helpful,
Regards
