Hello
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.com
Sometimes, but rarely, a vasectomy fails.
Yes, after years old patienttoo.
It is possible but rare.
It is not likely to be a perimenopausal false positive.
Well, next - please have an ultrasound scan and get the pregnancy confirmed.
If you wish for a termination, I can then guide you accordingly.
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.
Patient replied :
Dr,
Thank you for your response. I would not want to terminate. Would this pregnancy be considered higher risk due to my age (43)? What are the odds of a miscarraige? Chemical pregnancy?
Thanks
Hi.
A chemical pregnancy generally would not show up on the urine test ( home kit ).
You can confirm only when a scan is done.
An odds of a miscarriage are considerably higher at this age, compared to a woman with a younger pregnancy.
The risk of anomalies such as Downs Syndrome too increases.
Pregnancy-related complications such as hypertension, diabetes during pregnancy, malpresentation, difficult labour, increased chance of C-section, placental complications - all have higher incidence after 40.
If you wish to continue this pregnancy, do so after having understood and accepted these risks, with a ' calculated risk ' and proceed ahead after consultation with a Fetal medicine expert.
Take care.
