Hello,
Thank you for the query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
According to your symptoms, it is most probably a Hordeolum externum (commonly called Stye).
You need to apply hot fomentation (using a small towel dipped and squeezed in tolerably hot water) over the swelling with eyes closed, for 15-20 minutes, 2-3 times a day +
a) antibiotic eyedrops (Moxifloxacin 0.5% or Gatifloxacin 0.3% - 1 drop in the affected eye, 4 times a day, i.e. - once in every 4 hours, for 7 days)
b) eye ointment Ciprofloxacin 0.3% in the eye at bedtime for 7 days.
Oral antibiotics are not usually needed unless the swelling persists beyond 3 days even with the above treatment. For the pain you can take Tablet Paracetamol 500 mg twice a day, after meals for 2 days.
The swelling will usually develop a white spot at its peak, which will finally release the creamy pus inside, after which the pain and discomfort will greatly reduce.
Hope you will find this consultation beneficial.
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.
