Antibiotic to treat UTI besides SULZA, TETRACYCLINE.

Resolved Question:

Hi,

I am a 48 year old woman. I get UTI's at least once a year and I have the beginning of one now.

I have been taking AZO, Cranberry juice for the past two days, and it has not gone away. I feel that I need antibiotics, as I am traveling out of town this weekend and would like to get them today, February 11, 2015.

I am allergic to SULFA, and tetraclycline. If you could prescribe the lightest antibiotic that would be helpful.

Thank you, Darcy Keith

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
UTIs are rampant nowadays with a good percentage of males also getting infected. The issue is with widespread use of antibiotics, the organisms have become resistant. In fact, most of my patients do not show any recovery with Ciplofloxacin or Doxycycline which was the standard before.
In such a case, I advise you to use Cotrimoxazole ( TMP-SMX ) twice daily for 2 weeks. I am recommending 2 weeks so that there is no scope of resistance. Continue drinking plenty of water, and cranberry to prevent any burning.
So you can get a prescription for the same from any local physician and proceed.
Regards.

I don't have any of the following: Diabets, hypertension, surgeries, smoke, cosume alcohol daily, (not sure if I have allergies to Cortixozole?).
Thank you and how do I get the prescription called into my pharmacy.

Hello,
Thank you for the follow-up.
I just need to clarify one thing.
Are you allergic to sulfoquinolones in particular or all sulfa based compounds?
In that case, Cotrimoxazole can't be taken.
You can go for Augmentin ( amoxicillin + clavulanic acid ) 625 mg twice daily. This is a very light antibiotic and won't cause any allergies.
Unfortunately, we do not provide any online prescriptions. So you need to get a prescription from your local doctor.
Regards.
