Resolved question:
I have a question about Raynaud's. I have a mild form. I don't exhibit the white ivory fingers, but my hands are always very cold and red even in 70 degree weather. Anything below 30 and the fingertips get numb and painful. I'm going to college next year in Hanover, New Hampshire, but I don't know if I can handle the extreme temperatures anymore. It can get as low as -20 degrees. Do you have any suggestions?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Unfortunately the only preventive measure you can take to prevent Raynaud's is to wear hot clothes and gloves and socks as much as possible in the cold climates.
However, this won't really help when you are exposed to -20 degrees.
I will request you to consult a local physician near your college who can write you a prescription for Nifedipine, a drug used to prevent recurrent attacks of Raynaud's and also treat acute cases thereby preventing complications. This is the only US-FDA approved drug, and you can take it as and when required.
Hope this was helpful,
Feel free to discuss further.
Without the medication, how would I do in Hanover?
You definitely need the medicine, as there is no other way to prevent the attacks, apart from completely avoiding places with that kind of temperature.
I will advise you consult a local GP there and get Nifedipine along with you. Whenever the attacks are severe, and painful, you can take Nifedipinie SOS.
Regards.
