Pain in upper arm under shoulder which reduces on raising arm

Resolved question:
I've been having pain in my upper arm for the past two days. The pain goes away when I'm lying down and subsides to some extent when I raise my arm high, but the pain can be fairly severe otherwise.

Hello,

Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.

Can you please provide me some additional information regarding this pain so that I can help you better.

1. Where exactly is the pain ? Which side ? Is it near the shoulder joint ? or Is it in the shoulder joint ?

2. Is the pain present in whole diameter of the arm or just in a localised area ?

3. The pain decreased when you raise your arm over head. (Please correct me I am wrong)

4. Do you feel the pain in the bones or muscles (or can't distinguish) ?

5. Does the pain increase if you 1.clench the fist, 2. Push against a wall ?

You can reply as a followup.
Thank you

Pain is in left side, under shoulder. Not sure if it's in shoulder joint.) Pain is localized. Pain decreases when I raise arm and goes away when I lie down. Don't know if pain is in bones or muscles. Pain does not increase if I clench fist or push against wall.

Hello,

The pain appears to be from a strained muscle or ligament. The symptoms are bit non specific to localise the origin of the pain. However there are no warning signs. So probably it is a shoulder joint ligament sprain . (As the pain is influenced by movement )

I recommend you to keep the arm in rested position. Do not exert or lift heavy objects for a week. If there is pain you can take an OTC pain medication like Ibuprofen 400 mg twice daily for 5 days. This will also help in reducing the inflammation.

Hope this helps
