Crohn's and degenerative disk disease

Resolved Question:

Hi. I am a 36 year old woman with a history of Crohn's Disease and degenerative disc disease in my neck. About a week ago I started having a persistent numb spot on one of my pointer fingers. I still am experiencing this numbness. Both hands also seem to "tingle" off and on and are really cold feeling. I do not have any neck or arm pain or tingling, and this does not feel like when I had herniated discs in the past. I have tried warming up my hands, but it doesn't help the numbness, tingling or coldness. Should I be worried? How urgent of a situation is this?

Crohn's: May have a mild flare currently
Medications: Imuran, allopurinol, OrthoEvra birth control patch
Stats: 5' 7", 140 lbs

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

Your symptoms are suggestive of a mild peripheral neuropathy, due to involvement of nerves in the hands. I agree with you that these symptoms are not due to the herniated discs in the neck.

There is no need to worry about these as these are minor and may go away on own. However, if the symptoms persist, you should consult a neurologist. He may order for nerve conduction studies and a few blood tests such as vitamin B12, thyroid profile, ANA profile etc, to find out the underlying cause.

I hope it helps. Please get back if you have any more queries.

Best wishes,
