Pain in side of head on coughing, bending over.

Resolved Question:

Hey, so recently I've been having this weird pain in the right side of my head whenever I cough/bend over/use the bathroom. It's not that bad, it's just a sharp pain for as long as I'm coughing and then it's over. It's sort of like on the very right side of my head just above my eyebrow. Do you think this is anything to be worried about/get checked out? What are the symptoms that should make me see my doctor. Thank you!

Hello.
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
You mentioned about episodes of coughing. How often do you have cough? Because from your history it is evident that anything that increases the intra abdominal pressure, such as coughing/bending over/ using toilet, it is leading to a pain in the right side of the head. If there is continuous coughing, it can be present because the body is constantly getting subjected to raised pressure.
The pain site you described can also be due to sinuses. Do you have any cold? Or any history of blocked sinuses and recurrent cold before?
If it is a sporadic pain and not continuous it should usually settle down on its own and there is nothing to worry.
However i will guide you further based on additional details.
Regards.

Patient replied :

The coughing is not constant, I just noticed the pain when I coughed/made internal pressure. I had been taking this new medication, clonazepam, and was wondering if maybe it was connected. I doubt it's anything to worry about, it seems to go away pretty quickly. I had just never really felt this kind of headache much before. As for sinuses, I have had some problems but nothing recently, that's why I was worried.

Hello.
Thank you for the follow up.
Yeah it does not seem anything to be worried about as of now. Some patients do present with headache after Clonazepam intake but it's not that common and the headache is persistent. In your case it seems more like a pressure headache which comes whenever there is an increase in the intra abdominal pressure.
I will advise you to take Tab. Sinarest for 5 days twice daily after food. It has a combination of Chlor-Pheniramine Maleate+ Paracetamol ) , and is helpful in relieveing such sporadic episodes of headache. In some cases during chronic sinus problems, the sinus will be congested and the patient will be completely asymptomatic. Only during forceful coughing, or other activites that increase the presssure, the congestion will increase more in the sinuses, due to increased blood supply and it will cause such sporadic episodes. It is a possibility. Hence i want you to try that medication, if Sinarest is not available any other medicine with that combination can be tried out.
If it settles down, its fine. If it doesn't then a CT SCAN can be done. But it is unlikely to show any finding. Yet for conclusive evidence it can be done.
Hope i have been able to help you,
Regards.
