Resolved question:
I have missed my last two or three periods. I'm not really sure since I have never really kept good track of them. I recently took two e.p.t. pregnancy tests and they both came back with a dark positive line right away. The line was still there after the three minute waiting period. For the past two months whenever I would eat it would make me feel nauseous but that has recently gone away. I have also lost a little more than five pounds. Is there any thing besides being pregnant that could cause all these symptoms as well as the positive pregnancy test? Or is it most likely that I really am pregnant? I plan on calling a doctor and making an appointment on Monday but have to wait until then because the office is closed for the holiday weekend.

I discussed your concern with our team OBGYN. Modern Urine pregnancy tests are based on urine HCG levels and hence have good specificity. That means most likely you are Pregnant. The symptoms are also suggestive of pregnancy. Any other cause is unlikely.
If you wish to carry on with the pregnancy you should take a Folic Acid tablet once a day. Avoid alcohol and other medications. And do get in touch with your Doctor for confirmation tests.
