Resolved question:
Hello. I am a 33yr old South Asian (Indian) woman who has hypothyroidism. I recently found out I was pregnant. I am 4.5 weeks pregnant. I got my blood results back today and my TSH was 6.6. I am very worried as I know this is high and that baby development is very crucial to thyroid function. I take 75 mcg of Synthroid, and my doctor suggested I switch to 100 mcg. I am worried that there has already been damage done to the baby. Should I be concerned? Once I take the new dose, how soon after should I get tested again? I take my Synthroid first thing in the morning, and then my pre-natal vitamin 4 hours after. Is that enough of a gap? Thank you.

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
Please do not worry. No such damages have been done to the baby. You have rightly increased the dose to 100mcg. Now check every month through pregnancy and target TSH is 0.4-2.5. Dose needs to be adjusted accordingly.
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.
Thank you very much. One quick question - how long after I take my thyroid medicine can I take my pre-natal vitamin? They say at least 4 hours, but should I wait longer? Any diet or natural remedy I can also use to help my thyroid function in addition to increased dosage? Thank you again I feel much better.
You can take vitamin prelunch and thyroxine early morning.
