Hello,
Thank you for posting your query. I have read the MRI brain report of your 56 year old mother.
First of all, I wish to reassure you that this report does not suggest any serious neurological disease.
Ischemia refers to lack of blood flow to brain. So, there are multiple small areas of decreased blood supply in her brain (small blood clots). These most often do not produce symptoms, in some cases, headache and memory impairment may be seen. Demyelination refers to damage of nerve covering (myelin sheath) due to ischemia.
Common underlying causes or risk factors for ischemic demyelination are high BP, sugar, cholesterol and homocysteine, which can be tested in blood tests.
Treatment consists of using aspirin tablets, and treating any risk factors, if present.
I hope it helps. please get back if you have any more queries.
Best wishes,
Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
