Once you give me the information, i will get back to you.

Patient replied :
Her last LMP was October 5th, her periods usually last about 5 days and her cycles are regular. She has i believe a 29 day cycle if not a 28
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up.
Now let me explain to you, how it works. So considering her periods was on october 5th, with a regular 29 day cycle, she would have ovulated around 19th or 20th. Even if it got delayed not beyond 22nd. Since you had intercourse with her only 7 days prior, that indicates, it was way past her ovulation date and there is no chance of pregnancy or implantation bleeding. What she got was her period, no matter how scanty her bleeding was. Sometimes stress can lead to a delay, or heavy or scanty periods due to hormonal fluctuations.
So I can assure you there is nothing to worry about.
Just for your reference she is fertile in between the 8th- 20 th day of her cycle. So please have protected sex in those days. Other days even if you have unprotected sex she is not going to get pregnant, because the ovum stays viable only for a period of 12 hours. Hence we consider 14 ( 5 days either side ) to be the unsafe period.
She has her period and you have nothing to worry about.
Hope this was helpful,
Regards.
Patient replied :
Just to double check what if her period started October 7th does that still apply? If I did the math correctly it would only be of my concern if her period started on the 8th is that correct? Thank you so much Dr. And sorry for bothering you it's just that we are both really worried and if a situation like that ever occurs again how early after intercourse is a pregnancy test a viable option?
Hello,
Yeah if her period started around the 7th october she would have ovulated around 21st or 22nd. So still there are no chances of pregnancy.
The earliest when pregnancy can turn positive by taking a test is within 7 days.
However i reassure you, you have nothing to worry about.
But it depends if you have intercourse while she is ovulating, pregnancy can be positive even in 2 days.
So it all depends on the timing of when you're having intercourse and whether she is ovulating.
Regards.
