I am a 40 year old female and have been on the minipill and have taken it every day without missing. I have been not been feeling well the past few days and took a pregnancy test today which was positive. While I am in a serious relationship with my boyfriend, I am very afraid. My last period was on December 30, 2014. We live in the US and took a trip to London the week of January 10-16th. During that time I had the stomach flu, and vomited in the morning several days and had quite a bit of diarrhea. I did take the pill during this time. I'm very confused and am having trouble understanding how I got pregnant. Since I've been taking the pill, even this morning before I found out will it hurt the pregnancy?

You travelled mid cycle, when ovulation was very likely, if the pill failed.
ANd the vomiting and diarrhoea mid cycle DOES reduce the efficacy of the pill.
That is most probably why you got pregnant.
The failure of the pill is due to the flu that happened unfortunately mid cycle, leading to the non absorption of the pill.
Hence you ovulated and conceived.
Very unfortunate, but yes, it makes sense I hope now.
No, even if you took the pill right until today morning, it will not hurt the pregnancy at all.
