Hello,
Irregular bowel habits, abdominal discomfort, flatulence etc., can be symptoms of Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is common in young people and is often stress related. Fiber diet and probiotics are useful in treatment of IBS. It can follow other gastro intestinal infections. Parasites like hook worm and entamoeba histolytica (amoebiasis) may cause altered bowel habits and abdominal discomfort but are usually associated with diarrhea or blood in stool. Stool examination can be done in case of suspicion to rule out any pathogens.
Other causes like fructose intolerance, lactose intolerance, celiac disease (intolerance to wheat proteins like gluten) can produce non-specific gastro intestinal symptoms and have to be ruled out. The occasional itching can be due to anal irritation due to frequent passage of stools. Pin worm (thread worm) infestation can cause anal itching as the worms crawl out to lay eggs near anal region causing irritation and itching. Eggs can be observed by simple microscope. Antihelminthic treatment with Albendazole to the entire house hold is advised, as pin worm spreads easily from human to human in close contact.
Have a consult with gastroenterologist, who will guide you through necessary tests and treatment. Hope this helps. Thank you.
