Resolved question:
Hi,
I am here to consult about my mother health conditions and I do not know if this is a right place to do that, however my brief introduction follows below.
My mother aged around 65 years is a history of health issues. She has been diagnosed with thyroid way back in 1995 ans since then she has been under eltroxin and we regularly check her thyroid deficiencies to alter the dose.
She also ha rheumatoid arthritis since last ten years and have been on regular doses of steroids and other medicines which has also affected her lungs capacity and has regular cough.
Recently , she has undergone a total hip replacement and has been under medical observation with Apollo.
She is doing good as far as her hip replacement surgery is concerned and have started walking with support. Also, with regular medicines her arthritis pain is in control and she is fine and have no complain about it. However, she has some pulmonology issue. She coughs very badly and is not able to control it.I will list out the medicines which she has been taking since her surgery and would like to get an advise from the doctor if she is having a good medical care. Any advise would be highly appreciated. I have been taking her to Apollo, Sakra world hospital and she is under consultation with renowned doctors of Bangalore. But still , just to make me understand that she is having a good medical care , I am posting this detail.
She takes
1) T Eltroxin 175mcg daily in empty stomach in the morning
2) T HCQS 200 mcg daily one tab in the morning
3) T Calcimax forte daily one tab in the morning
4) T Omnacortil 10mcg/5mcg alternatively one tab in the morning
5) Lelflunamide 20mcg daily one tab in the morning
6) C Benz pearl 2 tab thrice in a day
7) C Fefol Z one tab in night
She has also continued with Duolin and Budlecast nabulisation for one week
Having said that, she just have one problem and that is she coughs very often and it is really painful and she has backache because of this. A white mucus like sliva comes out when she coughs.
I just do not understand , if she is having all the right medicines looking at her medical condition. I have been visiting her to good Dr but still her lung is giving her problem.
May I request the doctor here to please advise what should I do now so that she gets rid of her problem.
Do these medicines will have a very bad affect on her in the long run? I am worried because I understand the is too much on medicines and that too on steroids. Please help me to suggest any alternative medication which would be good for her.

Kaifi

Hello,
Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.
I would like to know when the respiratory symptoms started ? Was it after the hip replacement surgery ?
Was it after introducing any new medication ?
When was Leflunomide started ?
Was a Chest X-ray taken ?
You can reply as a followup
Thank you
Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
The respiratory symptoms started way back in 2006/2007. We had consulted a lot of Dr in our home town, where they told that she has tb or some other disease. After taking tb medicines for few days her condition deteriorated and later she was admitted to hospital. For two years after that i.e, 2007-2008 she was under homeopathy treatment which subsided her arthritis and lung problem but slowly the medicine became unresponsive and she was almost bedridden with swollen fingers and cough. We had lost all hope then but by grace of GOD, we consulted a physician Dr S K Mishra who started with his medicine and told us that he has to give some steroid to make her back on her feet. (You can see his prescription in the documents attached earlier.
Later in the year 2012 July onward she is with me here in Bangalore and but suddenly the medicine of Dr Mishra too became unresponsive so we consulted a Pulmonologist Dr Rajashekar here in Bangalore and he made my mother admitted in Malya hospital twice for his treatment (once in July and then in NOv 2013) and from where (please see his prescription attached earlier).
However, because of her hip problem we got her admitted in Apollo this year in Jan and she got operated with total hip replacement. In the follow up after her total hip replacement we also consulted renowned pulmonologist Dr Ravindra Mehta and Rhematologist Dr Pradeep Kumar in Apollo.
the current medicines as mentioned in my earlier email has been prescribed by these Dr and she is continuing with those sine 27th Jan 2014.
Now, answering your question about chest xray. Yes there have been several occasion when her chest xray has been taken (very recently in jan 2014) also she has done an MRI scan in july 2013 which clearly shows some disease of lungs which reports have been attached before.
Hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any other query.

Kaifi
