For sexually active people, condoms can lower the risk of sexually transmitted infections if they are used properly, from the start to finish of the act. But care should be taken that a broken condom will not offer any protection. Condoms also provide safety from getting infected with HIV and related diseases. They also help in preventing genital warts caused by HPV and cervical cancer. But areas which are not covered with condom are not protected.
