Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com.
Dear patient,
I am doing quite well, thank you.
Let me get to your questions straightaway.
1) is this the right conclusion and treatment from the doctor?
Yes. I feel the conclusion is right. You have a type of bronchial hyper-reactivity, and by all means can be classified as allergy to smoke.
2) if yes , after 6 weeks this problem will disappear for ever?
I cannot guarantee that it will disappear just like that into thin air after 6 weeks. However, chances are high. In any case, symptoms do come down drastically with long term treatment, though there is no magic number as 4 weeks or 6 weeks. As a routine, we ask for 4- 6 weeks of anti-allergic treatment.
2) shall i take this medicine for ever? or only for 6 weeks
Please take this medicine for 6 weeks. It will definitely help. However, I am sceptical that it will cure the problem. Your symptoms will come down, but you will be needed to take one tab as and when needed, occasionally. like once a week afterwards, as symptoms start to reappear. The best strategy is to avoid exposure to any smoke as much as you can.
( PS- I think you missed out on alphabets like LC or so- from the name of medicine. It wont be Montair alone, but Montair-LC, as per the composition you mentioned.)
4) if i always take this medicine i will keep my lungs healthy for ever and this problem will be control for ever? as i start a healthy life since 2 years
There is no need to take this medicine daily if you do not have symptoms after the 6 week course. The negative effects of smoking takes a long time to come down. However, at 2 years of quitting, you can be safe and your lungs should be as healthy as any non-smoker.
5) do you want to describe me any other medicine to keep my lung always healthy and prevent any problem forever ?
No. I too concur with the treatment given. However, I think the problem will not be just gone away for sure. At times, it will pop up - ( so as to prevent you from restarting!) but a PRN (one tablet as and when you experience symptoms) medication of the same tablet should help.
-i hope you will answer ASAP as i really panic and i want to feel that my lung will be ok for all my life.
You can be safe, as long as you keep away from smoking and are actively trying to keep away from passive smoking as well.
I have been straightforward and I hope this helped.
Regards and best wishes,
Dr. Jacob George P.,
MD, FCCP.
