I have been feeling low on energy for the last 2 months , someone suggested that I get the tests for lipid profile and vitamin b12 done.
I cannot decipher the counts but they are out of range. Kindly suggest the remedial action / medication and implications for such cholestrol and vitamin b12 counts.
Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
For generalised weakness I would have suggested tests like complete hemogram and later if that was normal vitamin D levels. High cholesterol levels do not cause weakness. Also if the hemogram is normal then vit b12 levels cannot account for weakness.
Please answer the following questions.
Are you smoker alcohol consumer hypertensive diabetic or having family history of early atherosclerotic disease related deaths?
Do you take any medications afyer which you started feeling weakness?
Are you strict vegetarian?
Do you have frequent diarrhoea or loose stools?
Do you have tingling and numbness in extremities?
Do you have chest pain or breathlessness on brisk walking.
Your triglycerides are elevated. As far as LDL is concerned if you do not have any other risk factors like smoker diabetes hypertension family history then the levels are acceptable.
For triglycerides you can reduce them by following healthy lifestyle like exercising 30 mon a day atleast. Follow a low fat diet avoid dairy products and bakery products. Eat plenty of green leafy vegetables sprouts whole grains walnuts almonds and fruits. Reduce total calorie intake and weight. Quit alcohol if taking. Use sunflower safflower rice bran or canola oil or olive oil for cooking
As for vit b12 you should take a hematologists advice. There are numerous causes of b12 deficiency and you would need a detailed workup. Example strict vegetarian or alcoholics or those with intestinal worms or malabsorption diarrhoea are common populations who have b12 deficiency. We have numerous b12 supplements to correct the problem but it is essential to get down to the cause of b12 deficiency.
Please get a complete hemogram done
