Fever, excess sweating, headaches with chest pain.

Resolved Question:

Hello,

I have been sick now for 6 days. This isn't normal for me. I am 50 years old, 244lbs, 6' BP was 111/66 this morning heart rate 94.

I have had an;
1. Ongoing fever, 38.5 to 40, with outbreaks of extreme sweating
2. Extreme headaches
3. Dry cough
4. Pain in my upper chest (the first three days)
5. Loss of appetite.
6. Last night I felt blotted and this morning the same. I have been feeling somewhat constipated.

To try and stay ahead of the fever/headache I have been taking Motrin and Tylenol every four hours. Most the time I have been taking three tablets verses the directed two. It is the only way to get read of the headache.

How long should this headache/fever last before I should be worried? I am currently overseas and do not know the doctors here.

Do you have any idea what is causing this ongoing sickness?

Greatly concerned

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I am Dr. Jaydeep and I am pleased to assist you.
You have high-grade fever for the past 6 days, with a lot of sweating, dry cough and pain in the upper chest. You have been taking Tylenol And Motrin but both the fever and the pain has not subsided.
This is suggestive of a Lower Respiratory Tract Infection, for which you need to start an antibiotic course. If antibiotics are available without a prescription in the country you are at currently, you can start the treatment right away, or else meet a local physician there and get the prescription. A good choice antibiotic would be Tab. Cefixime 200 mg twice daily for 7-10 days depending on the severity. You also need to take Syrup.Ascoril 2 teaspoons twice daily, till the coughing subsides.

If you are in a malaria endemic area, please get yourself tested for malaria too, as malaria can mimic LRTI symptoms. The only concern is the high-grade fever persistent for the last 6 days. Keep taking tylenol 3 times daily after every 6 hours.
Please feel free to discuss further,
Regards.

I went and got tested for malaria. Late yesterday I recieved the results.I tested positive for malaria. A local Doctor issued me drugs, Flacichlor 250 (Chloroquine Phosphate Tablets) and Difnac-50 (Diclofenac Gastro-resistants B.P. 50mg). I took them last night. I am already feeling better.
Thanks
