Hello Mariam
Thankyou for approaching DoctorSpring with your query.
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
You would not get your period until you stop the pill.
You will bleed when you stop the hormones.
Also, starting this pill AFTER unprotected sex will not protect you against pregnancy, you should take a pregnancy test if you do not menstruate within a week of stopping the pill.
I hope this has helped. Feel free to follow up
Take care.

ok now i'm scared.i didn't know my boyfriend released during our intercourse.it was after d intercourse that he told me.so i called a pharmacist and was told that i should take the pill within 72hrs after the intercourse.i also browsed the net and i got the same reply,to start takin
g it within 72hrs after the intercourse as an emergency pill.or are there any special pills i should have taken?i'd also like to askis it safe to stop taking the pill now,or i should finish the full course
Within 72 hours of unprotected sex, you can take the ECP ( emergency contraceptive pill ) such as I pill, Unwanted 72, Plan B etc.
Microgynon is oral contraceptive birth control pill, which should be taken for atleast a month prior, to protect against pregnancy.
I would advise you to stop taking it right away, and wait for your withdrawal bleed.
If you do not have your period within a week of stopping the pill, then please take a pregnancy test.
If you plan to be sexually active in the future, start taking regular birth control ( like Microgynon ) from the second day of your periods.
All the best

thanks very much doc.i really appreciate ur assistance.i'd like to ask,is it true dewormers abort pregnancy at its early stage?if not do you knw of any drug you recommend i should get.i stay in ghana, its in africa.
Dewormers do NOT abort the pregnancy, at any stage.
They are not at all approved for medical abortion.
If at all your pregnancy test is positive, you should first of all consult a gynaecologist and get the pregnancy confirmed.
That way, you will be sure your pregnancy is intra uterine ( rarely it can be outside the uterus, ectopic , which can be life threatening ).
Next , medical abortion pills work within a very narrow framework, so please get it accurately dated.
Then take the pills as suggested ( normally one tablet of Mifepristone followed by 4 tablets of Misoprostol are prescribed, however correct dosage and schedule is recommended ).
Following the pills, a follow up scan after 15 days is compulsory to ensure that the abortion was complete.
Failing to follow these steps, you run the risk of complications such as severe bleeding, infection, incomplete abortion etc.
All the best and take care.
