Cough and eosinophilia prescribed Hetrazan

Resolved question:
Dear Sir, I had a cough problem and I went to Doctor where the blood test was carried out and my eosnophil count was found to be 800 . Doctor prescribed me with Hetrazan(100 mg) 3 times a day for 3 months, Is it O.K. to take this medicine 3 times a day as some of my friends were suggesting that max. you can take 1 per day and 3 is too much and can lead to side effects. If you want I can send you my blood test report. Thanks for your help in advance.

Hello,
Hetrazan is Diethylcarbamazine (DEC) used to treat Filariasis and some protozoal infections. Unless your Eosinophilia is due to Filariasis this medication is NOT indicated/used for you.
Eosinophilia is not a disease. It just means the Eosinophils cells have slightly gone up in number response to allergy, infection etc. An allergic cough can cause this. You can do a retest and this should be normalised by now. Unless you get it confirmed that from your Doctor that you have Filariasis or any other protozoal infection you need not take Hetrazan.

Hope this helps
