Chances of spreading others HSV-1 without blisters in lip.

Resolved Question:

So I have HSV-1 and I get cold sores sometimes on my lip. I've been dealing with them off and on for almost 5 years old patientnow. What I was wondering is how contagious I am to spreading them to myself when I don't have an obvious blister present? What brought on this concern is I woke up roughly 30 hours ago and I had drooled a lot in my sleep and my lips, cheek, and eye was damp from laying in it. Now I'm scared and in a panic that I have spread herpes to my eye. So I'm both scared and wondering what the chances are that I just spread herpes to my eye? I don't notice an obvious blister.

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Do you have a cold sore or blister at present? HSV-1 can present with typical 2-3 outbreaks an year, and during these outbreaks it is possible that if you touch an infected sore, and then touch your eyes with the same finger, there is a possibility of passing on the infection. But in this case you drooled, and it got to your eyes. This really does not seem like a mode of transmitting the infection. Only if there was a direct finger contact with an infected sore, I would have been worried.
As of now, please do not worry.
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.

Patient replied :

I do not currently see or feel a blister or sore on my lip at the time of this writing. My concern was how contagious I am without a present sore and how likely it is that drooling on my pillow and it getting my cheek and eye damp from laying in it would spread the virus to my eye

It is extremely unlikely that you can spread the infection to your eye from drooling on your pillow.
Moreover, since you do not have any current sore or blister, there is no chance of spreading any infection.
Please do not worry about this at all.
Regards.
