Resolved question:
had medical abortion 4 weeks ago. Follow up appointment confirmed pregnancy has passed. Started birth control immediately (nuvaring) I had it in for 3 weeks then took it out and started what I think was my period. a few (3 or 4) days into it, I started bleeding A LOT passing clots and changing larger tampons every hour. I took a pregnancy test today and it still reads positive. Confused and scared.

Hello
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
Please relax.
It is normal for the pregnancy test to continue to show positive for upto 4 - 6 weeks following an abortion.
What matters if the follow up appointment and an ultrasound scan that shows that the uterus is completely empty and the abortion was successful.
That is already done in your case.
Plus you have immediately started birth control.
I tis common for the period following a medical abortion to be heavy , because some amount of tissue would be passed in the period.
So it is normal to have heavy bleeding with clots, plus that could be an adjustment of your body to the Nuvaring also.
Please do not worry.
If this bleeding persists for more than 5 days, or continues to happen next month too, or in the middle of the cycle, please have a repeat ultrasound scan to check that all is okay.
Otherwise, do not worry.
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.
Also, my breasts hurt. Like they did when I was pregnant. Sore, tender nipples. Granted, I just had a breast augmentation 2 weeks ago. I have been having unprotected sex and I forgot the surgeon told me that general anethesia can screw up your cycle and to use two forms of birth control. There are just so many factors at play here and I really just want to be pregnant anymore. Also afraid that this could be a new pregnancy due to the whole anesthesia thing?
Well, the breast / nipple symptoms are in all probability due to the recent surgery.
Also, you used Nuvaring which is good enough.
Chances of this being a new fresh pregnancy are remote.
An ultrasound scan will tell you either ways, what is the case.
So you can get that done, to reassure yourself.
Take care.
