Getting tired while doing sex

Resolved Question:

Hi, my question is: After having sex with my wife, I feel an extreme lethargy that is beyond just sleepiness, but aches and pains in my muscles which last for at least 10 hours after intercourse. It feels like I've used all my muscles for extremely strenuous work for a whole day with little sleep, while the intercourse itself is maybe 15-30 minutes and quite easy until ejaculation. I don't have these same sensations if I were to ejaculate outside of intercourse. Is there any cure for this? I understand a little tiredness from exercise, but this makes me not able to concentrate or be alert for anything for a whole day. Thanks.

Hello,
Thank you for asking the query.

I understand your concern and I will offer my best possible help here.

It is bit unusual to get tired and have aches and pain after a normal sexual intercourse which last for 15-30.

The first step here is to access your general fitness and health status. I would like know some more details from you in this regard. You can reply to this email itself.

  2. Are you taking any drugs for any medical condition?
  3. How physically active are you in a given day – Sedentary, Moderate, Highly active
  4. Do you get breathless while climbing 1 or 2 flight of stairs?

Do you get aches and pains after an usual physical activity (which is not related to sex).

Thanks for your response. Here are the answers to your questions:

1.     Do you have any other medical illness?
No, and I have had these symptoms after sex for about 2 years now, but I don't have any other medical illness.

2.     Are you taking any drugs for any medical condition?
No.

3.     How physically active are you in a given day – Sedentary, Moderate, Highly active.
I am between sedentary and moderate: I work my job at a desk for most of the day (8-10 hours, with occasional breaks for walking around about once per hour). Most of my exercise comes from walking back and forth between home and work (I don't drive) or walking to nearby stores for groceries. In total I usually walk 60-90 minutes a day.

4.     Do you get breathless while climbing 1 or 2 flight of stairs?

No, I often climb 3 or 4 flights of stairs around the work place.

5.     Do you get aches and pains after an usual physical activity (which is not related to sex).

No. I have on occasion carried things for a mile or two (not strenuous weight) and after putting it down I still do not have aches nor pains.

6     Do you have the symptoms if you change the position while the sexual act (say your partner on top).
Yes, my partner and I have sex either myself on top or her on top, and in both cases I have the same symptoms.

Thanks, Doctor. Please let me know what you think.

Hello,

There appears no organic (physical health related problem) after analysing your replies.

Nevertheless I recommend you to undergo a set of basic lab tests to rule out any disease conditions that could cause these symptoms.

1.A complete blood count : CBC

2.Renal Function test

3.Liver function test

4.Fasting Blood sugar

5.TSH

6.ECG

7.Echocardiogram if available.

Sexual activity involves aerobic + anaerobic activity. This could be taking a toll on your muscles. Meanwhile take the sexual activity is a slow and leisured pace. Make sure that there is no anxiety, mood issues or stress. Do not engage in sexual activities in a hurry. Try a position which is least tasking to you.

Exercise - Have a exercise schedule atleast for half hour a day. Increase it upto 1 hour in 1 month. Engage in moderate activites and then progress to vigorous exercise. Please make sure you are taking it up slowly and gradually.

Also have a wholesome nutritious diet. You may include B complex vitamin too. Give it a time of 2-4 weeks and see how it works out. Meanwhile have the blood tests done. If something is wrong that needs to be attented

Hope this helps
